Hello Inklings! Anticipating modern psychology, Jekyll and Hyde is a brilliantly original study of man’s dual nature–as well as an immortal tale of suspense and terror. ‘Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ is the original title of the story written by the Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson that was first published in 1886. The work is commonly known today as ‘Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde’ or simply ‘Jekyll & Hyde’. It is about a London lawyer named Gabriel John Utterson who investigates strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr. Henry Jekyll, and the evil Edward Hyde. Jekyll & Hyde’s impact is such that it has become a part of the language, with the very phrase “Jekyll and Hyde” coming to mean a person who is vastly different in moral character from one situation to the next. It’s only a short book too. We look forward to seeing you!

Leading this discussion will be Ryan Vera, 2nd year PhD in English at the CUNY Graduate Center. His specialties include Victorian Lit, Gothic Lit, Pop Culture, & Ecocritical Studies. Ryan Vera is a Graduate Teaching Fellow at Baruch College. He is also a Lay Dominican.

Seeking imaginative-minded spirits to join us for informal, convivial meetings. Invite a friend!
