Franciscan Friars of the Renewal’s Summer Life Program
July 4 - July 26Free
Summer Life will be held Monday to Thursday starting on July 8th and concluding on July 25th. The program is for children entering the second grade in the Fall of 2019, up through children entering the eighth grade in the Fall of 2019. The program is run by the Friars for children in the South Bronx. Volunteers serve in a variety of capacities such as group leaders, chaperones during trips, activity coordinators, and kitchen staff. Volunteers should be actively living their Catholic faith, generous in serving others, and a minimum of 21 years old.
As we have done the past few years, volunteers will be expected to attend Sunday outings with the high school students, and to participate in the evening meals and formation sessions, Monday through Thursday nights. In addition, a preparatory retreat will be held July 4th – 6th. These are great opportunities, during the time we are together, to grow personally and as a community. Friday and Saturday are free days to rest, recuperate, and visit the city.
Volunteers will be able to stay in the youth center dormitory during the duration of the program. We are in particular need of men volunteers. Out-of-town volunteers should plan to arrive in the Bronx between July 1st and July 3rd. If a flight on July 4th is more economic for you, that is fine. The friars will coordinate your pick up from the airport and bring you to the retreat. Local volunteers should arrive either on the evening of July 3rd, or by 9:00 AM on July 4th. Departure from the Bronx for out-of-town volunteers should occur between July 26th and 28th.
All potential volunteers should email me at email@example.com to set up a time for a phone interview, and should complete the online application, if they have not already done so. In addition, a safe environment background check and training will need to be completed.
