Ascension School, Manhattan Ascension School is a Roman Catholic educational community committed to exploring and developing the spiritual, intellectual and social potential of our young children from diverse religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Our Grade 7 teacher will be responsible for teaching Math to Grades 6, 7, and 8, as well as Religion to Grades 7 and 8. Our Math courses follow the NYS curriculum, and prepare students for high school math. In Religion, Grade 7 prepares for Confirmation, so sacramental preparation takes a big role in this position, and with it a true focus on Catholic social teaching, and service to others. Service is incredibly important at Ascension, and we are looking for a teacher who believes in the value of it.
A bachelor’s degree is required, masters preferred. A practicing Catholic is important for this role.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field required; a Masters degree in education or a related field is preferred
• NYS Teacher Certification (candidates in process of earning certification may apply)
• Successful elementary school teaching experience or
• Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred
• Practicing Catholic
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Commitment to the mission, vision and core values of Ascension School
• Experience and willingness in working with middle school students
• Knowledge and comfort with math instruction for Grades 6-8 NYS Curriculum
• Knowledge and commitment to Catholic teachings, shown in teaching and general practices
• Preparation for Student Confirmation sacrament, and attendance at events connected to Confirmation when possible.
• Knowledge and application of best practices for instructional and assessment strategies
• Develop unit, weekly and individualized lesson plans in line with program goals and policies
• Differentiate instruction to build upon individual strengths and interests of each child.
• Implement remote learning instruction when needed.
• Regularly assess the progress of each child and use the data to plan for instruction
• Implement positive behavior management support aligned with Archdiocesan guidelines.
• Work closely with school administration, Archdiocesan and coaches and teaching partners to provide high quality early childhood instruction.
• Provide services to all children and families with respect, compassion and confidentiality while exhibiting knowledge of and sensitivity to the educational, cultural and socio-economic needs of the children and families served in the program
• Knowledge and application of instructional technology including Zoom, Google Classroom, document camera, interactive whiteboard and instructional apps
• Ability to collaborate and team with colleagues as part of a professional learning community
• Knowledge and application of best practices for instructional and assessment strategies
• Ability to work with instructional coaches and principal
• Ability to establish and maintain positive partnerships with parent community
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
• Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development
