Summary:
The person applying for this position needs to have understood and applied the concept of youth ministry as put forth by the General and National Director(ies) for Catechesis and Renewing the Vision. Renewing the Vision states: “Youth Ministry is the response of the Christian community to the needs of young people and the sharing of the unique gifts of youth with the larger community” (RTV 1). The purpose of this position is to implement the Cardinal Archbishop’s vision of youth ministry by promoting comprehensive youth ministry and providing the support, training, resources, and guidance parishes need to foster discipleship in young people and their families within their particular region. The Office of Youth Ministry is part of the Department of Youth Faith Formation which serves parishes in their ministries to young people and their families from pre-K to twelfth grade.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The job of the Regional Coordinator of Youth Ministry (South of Yonkers) is to support and coordinate youth ministry efforts for high school age students up until the college level within their respective region. The key responsibility of this position is to work closely with parish communities to develop, grow, and support their ministries to and with high school-aged youth. The Regional Coordinator will be the liaison between the local communities within his/her region and the Office of Youth Ministry. The Southern Regional Coordinator will work as part of the Office of Youth Ministry team and in close collaboration with his/her colleagues in the Department of Youth Faith Formation.
Regional Coordinators will:
- Work collaboratively with parish leadership in the region to develop, grow, and evaluate effective disciple-making ministries to young people and their families
- Engage in parish consultation and resourcing
- Facilitate youth ministry training programs
- Facilitate youth regional gatherings
- Foster healthy relationships with regional parish, catechetical, and youth ministry leadership
- Visit parish programs and leaders on a regular basis
- Identify and share effective resources and practices with parish communities
- Gather youth ministry leaders on a regular basis
- Promote participation of leaders at regional, archdiocesan, national, international gatherings, retreats, and outreach and mission opportunities
- Work collaboratively with regional leadership to develop and facilitate training and events for parents, families, children, and youth on the local level
- Submit periodic reports to the Director on a regular basis
- Attend Office and Departmental staff meetings
- Update the database of regional youth ministry contacts and programs
- Engage and assist in events and programming of the Office and Department
- Collaborate with the social media presence through different accounts and website
- Follow-up with the Office of Youth Ministry Sub-Committee work and report to the Director and Associate Director and assist as needed
- Liaison with the coordinators of other offices in their respective areas
- Other duties as needed
Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s Degree minimum. A concentration in youth ministry/theology/education preferred.
- Five years of related experience in youth ministry
- Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred
- Actively growing in one’s faith and is a Roman Catholic in good standing
- Continues to learn about trends, methods, teachings, and research in adolescence, ministry, and education
- Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with others as well as be self-motivated and work independently
- Have a valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the archdiocese
- Able to work nights and weekends as needed
- Proficient in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and online navigation and research
- Very comfortable with a variety of technological tools used for learning and formation (e.g. digital projectors, laptops, tablets, smart phones, etc.)
