Position Summary: Inner-City Scholarship Fund changes lives for the better by providing families with demonstrable financial needs the opportunity to give their children a quality, values-based K-12 Catholic education within the Archdiocese of New York. Inner-City exists to ensure that the gift of an excellent Catholic school education continues to be a viable option for students of all faiths today and for future generations to come.
As the Student Learning Advocate you will support the long term success of the scholarship recipients. You will work directly with the scholarship operations team and school guidance counselors to develop solutions for students who are struggling academically.
Primary Responsibility: Work with Inner-City Scholarship Fund’s award recipients to help achieve academic growth through the use of student tracking, outreach and identification of tools to guide students through their Catholic school experience.
Direct Supervisor: Chief of Finance and Operations
Responsibilities:
- Monitor academic achievements of sponsored and named scholarship students
- Meet with select students at least once per year in person with follow-up meetings in person or virtually as necessary
- Engage with students in a holistic manner to understand what is going on in their lives and what impact it may be having on learning
- Provide guidance to students on how to develop strong study skills and habits, manage their time and set goals/priorities
- Proactively work with schools and individual students to identify available student resources and create intervention plans if required
- Provide comprehensive and detailed reports to organization
- Maintain call notes in Access student database
- Prepare update summaries for outside stakeholders as necessary
- Collaborate with donor relations and events teams as necessary to fulfill donor program requirements, including but not limited to:
- Communication with schools, students and families
- Organizing student career days
- Providing academic insights
- Oversee college readiness and persistence efforts
- Support scholarship team efforts as necessary.
Performance Standards:
- Ability to maintain courteous, open and professional communication with school administrators, families, students and other stakeholders at all times
- Accurately track and monitor student success
- Use effective judgment and conduct in performing responsibilities
Position Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree
- Experience: 10+ years in a guidance or teaching role at the middle school or high school level
- Comfortable with travel across the Archdiocese of New York and working independently

- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Patience and genuine concern for at-risk children; belief in Catholic education
- Positive attitude and ability to represent organization well at all times
- Ability to work independently
