The Director of Discipleship plays an integral role in our overall vision of creating intentional disciples. Collaborating with the Pastor and the Senior Leadership Team, the Director designs and implements a comprehensive approach aimed at creating disciples through RCIA, Adult Faith Formation, Family Faith Program, Religious Education, and Youth Ministry. The ideal candidate is a vibrant Catholic in good standing who is passionate about the incredible gift of the Catholic Faith and takes to heart the command of our Savior to “Go therefore, and make disciples…”. Familiarity with the work of Sherry Weddell on Forming Intentional Disciples and best practices on moving a parish from maintenance to mission by Father Mallon, Father Michael White and others working, writing, and researching in the field of parish renewal.
Qualifications
• A Practicing Catholic who is faithful to all that the Catholic Church holds to be true
• Master’s Degree in Theology or related field, or Bachelor’s Degree + extensive and effective experience in the field
• A deep desire and faculty in leading through consensus, conflict resolution, group dynamics, and group facilitation
• People management experience and/or demonstrated ability to lead without direct authority
• Change agile; demonstrated ability to take calculated risks, evaluate results and adjust as necessary
• Experience in evangelization including in the formation of intentional disciples
• Strong time management skills, including the ability to assess, plan, implement and measure the effectiveness of programs in a timely manner
• Professional writing and speaking skills
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
• Bilingual English/Spanish ability is highly valued
Detailed Job Responsibilities
Establishes an overall discipleship plan as a component of the strategic parish plan
Oversees all faith formation programming of adult, young adult, family, pre-school and elementary, middle school and youth ministries. Plans and executes programming as needed
Explore and be flexible in establishing alternative models for delivering religious formation for families and children requiring formation support outside the established programming
Has supervisory and training responsibility for paid staff working in religious education and adult faith formation ministry
Recruits, trains, and supports volunteers to assist with formation efforts. Work with volunteers to develop their knowledge, spiritual lives, leadership potential and accountability for outcomes in discipleship efforts
Works with other parish ministers to promote cohesive, effective programming which fosters discipleship among all parish ministries
Provide oversight to the RCIA Coordinator, and eventually – develop and provide oversight to a Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Team
Working with the Deacon, support the baptismal preparation process, and eventually – develop and provide oversight to a baptismal preparation team
Organize, oversee, and execute the marriage preparation process, and eventually – develop and provide oversight to a marriage preparation team
Plans, budgets for and evaluates the effectiveness of programs
