The Church of Our Saviour and the Chapel of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, a midtown Manhattan parish, seeks a Pastoral Ministry Associate (PMA) to coordinate and implement the parish’s pastoral ministry with guidance and support of the recently-appointed Pastor/Administrator, and in collaboration with other parish staff, parishioner groups, and others involved the parish’s ministries. As New York City re-opens after the pandemic, the parish seeks to develop, renew, and expand ministries both among parishioners and with the community in the Murray Hill and Kips Bay neighborhoods. The successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership, structure, and coordination to foster a range of outreach, service, formative, spiritual and liturgical ministries. The position requires both a vision of ministry potential for the parish and the skills and inclination needed to operationalize that vision. While the PMA will be expected to be involved in all areas of parish life and ministry, the role will vary in different areas, taking into account the evolving needs of the parish. In some areas another staff person or volunteer will oversee and/or implement the work (e.g. liturgical music), and in others the PMA will be expected to take the lead. The small number of children of catechetical age in the parish make it more efficient and effective to refer these children to a well-developed program in a neighboring parish. Specific areas of ministerial coordination and development will include social outreach and services (homeless and senior); adult sacramental preparation; outreach to neighborhood consulates and UN missions; prayer ministry; collaboration with Sant’Egidio Community; young adults; hospitality.
