Since its founding in 1905, the mission of Cathedral High School (CHS) has been to provide the daughters of immigrant families with a transformative Catholic education that challenges them to fulfill their academic potential, inspires them to serve and care for their communities, and imbues them with a deep awareness of their own dignity.
Job Summary
Cathedral High Schools seeks a dynamic, faith-filled teacher to join a faculty who is deeply committed to educating a culturally and racially diverse student body.
Under the supervision of the Principal, the Teacher assumes responsibility for the leadership and management of the classes assigned; strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education; develops and implements a daily instructional program according to the needs of the students and the established curriculum; maintains accurate records of attendance and academic achievement; establishes positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues; and continues professional development.
Responsibilities
-Lead and manage assigned classes and provide a positive and engaging learning environment.
-Deliver high quality and engaging instruction.
-Teach in accordance with archdiocesan and local policies and create daily lesson plans and learning activities based on New York State Standards.
-Differentiate lessons when needed.
-Evaluate student performance on tasks and adjust the lessons when necessary.
-Maintain a safe, orderly, and supportive classroom by following the procedures and policies set forth in the school’s handbook.
-Communicate with parents regarding student progress.
-Develop engaging and relevant lessons that allow the student to grow academically.
-Incorporate hands-on learning experiences into the classroom.
-Develop the intellect of each student to her highest ability, as well as her personal character.
-Work toward the creation of a Catholic community within the classroom and entire school community.
-Recognize and support the unique Catholic mission of Cathedral High School by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
-Show respect for individuals and fairness in dealing with students and parents.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
-Personal commitment to the mission of Cathedral High School
-Bachelor’s degree in Math education preferred
-An understanding of and enthusiasm for Catholic education, values, and culture
-An ability to communicate the order of Math as a reflection of the order and beauty of God
-Must demonstrate personal self-discipline, be adaptable and flexible in routine and unexpected situations, and use good judgment in daily encounters
-An understanding of New York State standards and Regents exams
