We’re a married couple (Ages 29/30) w/ a 9-month-old daughter and are looking into the possibility of leasing a larger apartment (at least 2 bed/ 2 bath) starting sometime between Aug. and Sept. 1st with a couple in a similar situation. Details are negotiable, but we think it might be more enjoyable to pull resources and split a larger shared space than to live in a tinier apartment alone (something in the vicinity of $2,000-$2,500 per couple). We’re interested in Brooklyn, but possibly Manhattan. I’m a divinity school graduate who will be teaching theology at a private Catholic prep. school on the Upper East Side; my wife has a background in theology and education and will be staying at home with our daughter for at least the following year.
We’re thinking something like a somewhat intentional but mostly informal ‘community’ – occasional prayers/meals together, potential shared child-care opportunities, balancing Catholic Worker sensibilities with young professional/family concerns – that sort of thing. We like important conversations, books, literature and the arts, museums, public spaces, farmers’ markets, cooking, hosting, family outings, generally attempting to invest in our parish and neighborhood communities, etc.
