Breaking Bread: Forging A Faith-Inspired Path to Zero Hunger
September 21, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm EDT
Please join us in an inter-faith event to take place at the Church Center at the United Nations (44th and 1st Ave) on Wednesday, 21 September, from 18:00 to 19:30. It will bring together more than 150 leaders from the public and private sector, local community, celebs and faith community from across the world in a celebration of what can be achieved together to help end hunger by 2030. The tone will be forward-looking, inspirational and symbolic. The event will feature a table/centrepiece with a plate or plates of bread or other simple food from each major religious community and quotes from religious texts on food and sharing.
MC-ed by Mr. Joshua DuBois, former head of President Obama’s Faith Based Partnerships, the event will include leaders from FAO, the World Food Programme, the Vatican/Holy See, Islamic Relief USA, Won Buddhist International, Hindu Temple Society of North America. There will also be musical performances from singer Cody Chestnutt, spoken word group Lab/Shul and Andalus Ensemble.
Event participants will be invited to “break bread” and share personalized, unscripted testimony of the centrality of food to community, what it means to go without, and how faith partners can be drivers of change on the path to Zero Hunger. The emphasis will be on sharing and listening, with contributions being made in different formats, e.g. music/song, poetry, verbal.
